OHD Pink gin

 
 

For the upcoming spring and summer we´ve created this pink gin with distinct fruitness from berries combined with classic gin botanicals

 
 

When fresh berries are in season, us Norwegians devour them as often as possible. We eat them as they are, we thread them on straws, we make jam out of them, we freeze them for later use or we conserve them in spirits.

The latter inspired us to create this Pink Gin. We distilled a London Dry style gin and macerated it with three kinds of berries.

Since we created this gin for the wedding of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett in Geiranger in August 2024, we were lucky enough to forage some of the raspberries from western Norway as well as some blueberries and blackcurrants from Norwegian fields.

The result is a Pink Gin with truly fruity flavours and aroma. And of course a lovely deep red colour. Be advised, the colour will fade with time since we don’t use any artifical colouring, but that does not affect the flavour.


THE BOTANICALS WE USE IN OHD GIN

Raspberries, blueberres and blackcurrants

Juniper - Citrus aromas with hints of spruce, resin, grass, wax and wood.

Angelica - Contributes structure to the distillate. The plant can be called the distiller's salt as it is an important flavour enhancer for the other plants in the gin.

Coriander seeds - Gives aroma and flavour of citrus, nuts and spices.

Zest from lemon and oranges - The oils in the zest gives a rounder mouthfeel and are highly aromatic.

Grains of Paradise - Warming and fruity spices reasembling black pepper and cardamum.

Orris root - Togheter with angelica it brings the flavours from the other botanicals together and contributes with some fruityness and floral notes.

Lemon verbena - Lifts the citrus notes and gives it a bit of an edge.

TASTING NOTE

Nose - Fruity notes of raspberries and some dark berries. Nicely concentrated aroma characterized by coriander, citrus, juniper and spices.

Taste - Gin with a verry fruity flavor of raspberries and dark berries together with a smooth taste of coriander, citrus, angelica, juniper and pepper.

Aftertaste - Lingering aftertaste from the berries, citrus and black pepper notes.
